oh february!
i've always loved feb since this is the month wherein my birthday doth take place. other than that, there's really not that much to recommend it. it's generally freezing, and it's at a point in the winter where people are just really sick of white, stark, frigid landscape. everyone is waiting for spring but it just stays so dang cold. and if the weather doesn't get to you, the immense stress and pressure of an impeding valentine's day might. yes, the only thing to recommend february is me heading closer to geezerville.
this year, february is a bit different. if i liked it in canada, i LOVE it in new zealand! since the beginning of the month i have gone to play badminton at a badminton club (for those wondering, yes, i did find it difficult to move normally the next day), watched a movie at the old penthouse theatre, hit the beach a few times, had a bit of birthday party, and went to a bob marley tribute concert. it reminded me of you, mom. hehe. no, i am not referring to the overwhelming scent of marijuana and more dreadheads than i can count, but the lovely sarong mom brought back from jamaica with a large picture of bob marley gracing the front. so anyway, we spent waitangi day (feb.6 holiday) jammin, jammin, jammin in da name of da Lord.....
on the theme of music, my friend steph and i were wandering the streets late one night in search of a mince pie, when we passed a group of teenage boys goofing around near McDonald's parking lot. we chatted to them and kept walking, and they called after us "wait! we have a song dedicated to you!" at this point the 5 or so guys assembled themselves and began to croon "My Girl"...in perfect multi-part harmony! it was hilarious and enjoyable, we laughed as we walked off, dancing to the sweet singing of the hooligan teenagers.
and lucky for us my friend darren from portage was able to share in some of feb's good times as he hopped over to welly for a visit before travelling off again. good to have ya, darren.
this past weekend i spent at X-air, which is a series of skateboard, motocross, bmx, and breakdancing competitions, as well as some sweet concerts- black seeds anyone? they're pretty good and my friend from church was rockin on the brass (trumpet? trombone? maybe both?). it was tres sweet.
oh, and i bought new jeans. insert girly materialistic giggle here. but in my defense, i ripped a large gaping hole in my other pair while at work (how awkward) so it was necessary.
so all in all, long story short, i have deduced that since my b-day takes place no matter where in the world i am, february is best in the southern hemisphere. except all you guys are there in the northern one, of course....
peace from wellington
love to all,
becki
